Origami/structural engineer and Associate Professor at the University of Queensland.
Joe leads the Folded Structures Lab research group, founded at UQ in 2014. The group comprises five post-graduate and four undergraduate research students, with active projects across origami-inspired engineering, lightweight and modular structures, computational building design, and advanced manufacturing.
Joe completed his Bachelor of Engineering at UQ in 2009 and his Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Oxford in 2013. His PhD studies were funded with the generous support of a John Monash Scholarship and he remains an active member of the John Monash Scholar community.
Joe is also a member of the ARC Future Timber Hub. The Hub is Australia’s leading timber research collaboration, bringing together experts from industry, government, and academia who are committed to the future development of tall timber buildings in the Pacific region. His work within the Hub is related to digital design and manufacture of innovative structures and systems.
